Volt Hockey Practice

Volt Hockey

Volt Hockey enables those with different physical abilities, such as Spinal Cord Injuries, SMA, DMD, CP, Spina Bifida, people with an amputation, or other physical conditions to participate in adaptive sports, be a part of a community, learn the value of teamwork & working hard to achieve goals, and give their parents, friends and caregivers a great reason to cheer them on from the stands! Volt hockey is, (1) an organized and competitive sport where players use specialized power wheelchairs to maneuver a ball into a net to score goals, (2) an adaptive form of indoor floor hockey, and (3) an excellent opportunity to engage the community! A Volt Hockey wheelchair is powered and is equipped with a fixed stick which is mounted directly at the tip of the hockey chair. The chairs can be customized to adapt to an individual’s needs to offer additional physical support.

The Rolling Warriors practice on Saturdays from 3-5pm at the Hockomock Area YMCA in North Attleboro, MA. Geographic Area Served: MA, RI, CT

Volt Hockey is a fast paced and fun recreational or competitive adaptive sport, however, for the safety of the players and teammates the following requirements must be met:

1) Players must have the ability to learn, understand, and execute the Volt Hockey rules.

2) Players must pay attention to the coaches & referees and follow directions.

3) Players must pay attention to own team-mates and the opponent team-mates. They need to be able to communicate with each other verbally or visually.

Team Social

Monthly, volt hockey team members gather in-person to forge strong and long-lasting relationships. This is an opportunity to bond as a team, to make friends, and to be part of a caring community where experiences can be shared in a safe and supportive environment. Team members are encouraged to join the Space2Thrive Youth Advisory Council (S2TYAC) to advise & assist as well as influence Space2Thrive’s Board decision making process in matters of volt hockey program development.

Team socials take place in Millville, MA in a safe and wheelchair accessible environment. However, the team might decide to meet in different settings and to plan field trips.

Parent/Caregiver Support Group

Monthly, parents and caregivers gather in-person, creating a community of support, exchanging experiences, sharing resources and providing social & emotional support to one another, or discussing volt hockey related matters such as travel to competitions. This is an opportunity to grow relationships beyond the volt hockey rink’s sidelines.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join Space2Thrive’s Advisory Council, advise & assist or join Space2Thrive’s Board of Directors to actively help shape the future of our organization and specifically, our volt hockey program.

Monthly meetup’s take place in Millville, MA and additional opportunities arise during our weekly volt hockey practices.

Virtual Meet&Chat

Together with BVH, our partner club in Norway, Space2Thrive organizes virtual meetups for players in the US and Norway. The Meet&Chat is led and organized by volt hockey players from the Space2Thrive’s Rolling Warriors (US) and BVH’s Lions (Norway), Vivienne and Andreas.

Meetups are offered every 2 to 3 month and present an unique opportunity to forge international relationships, talk about volt hockey, engage in interactive activities, watch and analyze volt hockey games creating further opportunities to enhance not only players’ volt hockey knowledge but also develop life skills on personal and professional levels.

Next Meetup: February 23rd, 2025
