"I wish it would be tomorrow already", my daughter said after opening her eyes this morning. The summer break seemed never to end. Tomorrow Whee Dance resumes and the kids can't wait to see each other again.
"Mommy, do you know why I think Whee Dance is better than Lara's Dance class?"
Lara is Vivienne's little sister who attends regular ballet classes.
I said 'No, tell me.'
"Because Whee Dance is a lot of fun and a little bit Dance. And Lara's class is just Dance."
I had to smile as this is the second time in one week I heard similar statements. Just a week ago a parent who has been with Whee Dance from day one told me she recommended the class to another family, because it is a more relaxed and fun setting. The family had a hard time finding a class for their daughter with special needs who loves music and dance. The strict rules, schedules and recitals made it challenging for her to enjoy the class she tried out before and the family stopped going. They are looking for something more casual and enjoyable for their daughter.
Here I am - with my self-critical desire for constant improvement and perfectionism - trying so hard to think about ways how to change and improve the class to 'what is expected from a dance class' that I almost forgot why I have created the class.
I realized, families and children enjoy the class for what it is already. A place to meet, connect, thrive, belong, learn from each other and simply have fun! A unique space where all children regardless of ability are welcome. A space to retrieve from every days schedules and expectations. A space to just be. A space to make children happy.
I can't wait to see families and children back tomorrow and to welcome new ones. I can't wait to hear children's cute voices ask for 'more' and see bonds form between children no matter of ability.
I wish it would be tomorrow already.
